Frequently Asked Question
Q: I am related to someone who served on active duty during one of The American Legion’s recognized membership eligibility periods. Am I eligible to join the Sons of The American Legion?
A: You may be eligible. If the qualifying veteran served during an approved eligibility period and is currently a member of The American Legion, an eligible descendant may qualify for membership in the Sons of The American Legion.
If the qualifying veteran is deceased, eligible descendants may still qualify for membership even if the veteran was not a member of The American Legion during his or her lifetime, provided the veteran’s military service meets the applicable eligibility requirements.
Because individual circumstances can vary, prospective members are encouraged to contact their local American Legion Post for assistance verifying eligibility and completing the membership process.
